We welcome anyone who is interested in becoming a member of Journey Church to attend the "Discover the Journey" lunch. This is a great opportunity for people to connect with each other and to get to know Journey better. We discuss doctrine, vision, church polity, our church history, etc.. Members at Journey agree to show the gospel in the way they live life around each other. This life is best shown through Journey's Heart Attitudes which are:
Scripture bases for Journey Church's Heart Attitudes
Intro: Prov. 4:23 Above all else guard your heart.
Psalm 90:12 Develop a heart of wisdom.
1. PUT OTHERS FIRST
Philippians 2:3-7
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
Prov. 25:6
Do not exalt yourself in the king's presence, and do not claim a place among great men;
Luke 14:8-11
8 "When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give this man your seat.' Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place.10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. 11 For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
2. LIVE OPEN AND HONEST LIVES
Eph 4:25
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
3. HUMBLY GIVE AND RECEIVE SCRIPTURAL CORRECTION IN LOVE.
Prov. 13:18
He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
Prov. 15:31-33
31 He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. 32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
Eph 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
4. KEEP RELATIONSHIPS STRAIGHT
Matt. 5:23-24
"Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.
5. FORGIVE EACH CHANCE YOU GET.
Matt 6:14-15
14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
6. PARTICIPATE IN MINISTRY
1 Peter 4:10-11
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Eph 4:11-12
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up
7. SUPPORT Journey Church IN PRAYER, ATTENDANCE AND TITHE.
2 Cor. 9:6 -7
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Heb 10:24-25
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
8. FOLLOW CHURCH LEADERS WITHIN SCRIPTURAL BOUNDARIES.
Heb 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
